Careless Driving

Under Michigan law, careless driving is a civil infraction punishable by fine. Michigan statute MCL 257.626b defines careless driving as driving on a road, frozen body of water, or other place open to the general public in a careless or negligent manner that is likely to endanger any person or property.

This statute is very broad, and includes driving in public parking lots, frozen lakes, streams, and ponds.
